In November 1991 the french fanzine Prémonition dedicated a special 40-pages issue of their magazine to And Also The Trees. It included an (early) history, in-depth interviews with Justin and Simon Huw Jones, questions with all band members, a discography and reviews of ALL albums, EP's an compilation until 1989, a short live history, hand written lyrics of Simon ... and an exlusive CD with three live tracks from the now legendary concert in Paris La Bataclan 1989.
The publication had a limited print of 500 is now a well sought-after, expensive collectors item, near impossible to find ...

The in-depth book contains more than 200 pages of photos, infos and insights of the live history of their more than 400 concerts And Also The Trees performed so far...

Clouds, Paperships and Fallen Angels

Dark Orange's new album "Couds, Paperships and Fallen Angels" features guest musicians such as Steven Burrows and Emer Brizzolara from the English "And Also The Trees" and Jan Ross and Brida Garland of Mexico City's "Morfeo Speaks". The last sound comes from Robin Guthrie, well known from the legendary "Cocteau Twins" or his solo-projects...

Dark Orange's new album will feature the AATT cover song "The House of the Heart" originally released for Beyond The Horizon.

Dark Orange is now a German-French band consisting of the two founding members, Katrin-Elna and Dirk Odu and the French Soundspecialist Olivier Goyet. Density and atmospheric songs full of guitars with Katrin Elnas heavenly voices, reminiscent of the old 4AD-sounds, but also spherical ambient and trip-hop-containing factors. Dark Orange also relate well to their own past as one of the first "Heavenly Voices" bands of the legendary Hyperium label. "Couds, Paperships and Fallen Angels" will be released 14th. of May 2010 on Kalinkaland records.

Exactly one year after their first gig in Larissa, persistent travellers of mysterious tunes, legendary "And Also The trees" from Worcestershire return as a quartet to prove on "Stage" that their acoustic experimental roaming was driven by serious artistic reasons. Standing severe under distinctive low light, they draw an imaginary curtain uncovering the point of departure in their career as haunted "Shantell" opens a sly purple hole in the belly of the night. "Candace" holds its ground for all those familiar with "When the rains come" until the surprising refreshing person of "The suffering of the stream" races that same old odd narration with the chilling company of dark backing vocals. The warning for "...The accordion girl" souds like a tail of revenge for the former shortcut beside the stream, to find a suitable follower to the old macabre classic "There was a man of double deed". "Fighting in a lighthouse" for those being close to their americana trilogy, sounds now like a musical spy, determined to get familiar with the rest of their moods, echoing with a mysterious allusion. Impressions turn tender with the smooth glove of "Dialogue" like a thin carpet of innocent dust on a faded sentiment. Justin grabs the accordion for another crushing journey in time to recall the echo of "The street organ" and "Mary of the woods" finds a temporary exit of strong memories long forgotten. The restless steps of "Jacob Fleet" drove us once more to our hypothetical inner rage to race something we miss and don't know what, and nice vocal harmonies reinvented "The cyclone", an isolated almost neoclassical diamond in the road trip of "Silver soul". Then the night had to suffer to take in a small piece the whole heart of Europe as eternal "Belief in the rose" revealed its wisdom amed with a bittersweet reflection strong enough to make everybody believe this was the serious end of something beyond description. Only the mystical heresy of "Mermen of the lea" could make a strong link of the chain and drive back to another room of "...Lucy" getting now suspicious and turning tension to expectation. The familiar theme of "The untangled man" started spinning in a circle to the end of the basic part of the show. The weird steps of "Vincent Craine" and the hesitant mood of "Feeling fine" lead to the all time classic "Virus meadow" blessedly cursed to sound eerie and endless even in its new acoustic costume. The four shadows stepped down the stage, marched between the audience and left their absolute reasons sink in the tired and dizzy entrails of a long February night...

The debut release from Les Disques du 7ème Ciel is a 10" vinyl EP by And Also The Trees. It is packaged in a deluxe 100% recycled cardstock gatefold sleeve and comes with a four page booklet, a full CD version of the EP, two postcards, a sticker and a badge. It is a limited edition with only 500 numbered copies produced. It also contains Simon Huw Jones' handwritten lyrics for all of the songs.

This new acoustic EP contains four songs recorded during the When The Rains Come acoustic sessions and two exclusive tracks, Shantell and Feeling Fine.

Steven Burrows will join Dark Orange on bassguitar for some of the new songs of the band's upcoming album.

Steven Burrows has been a friend of Dark Orange since the concerts with the Trees back in 1992 and will give an additional colour to the new songs which will be done together. Dark Orange contributed an wonderful interpretation of "The House Of The Heart" to the AATT tribute Beyond The Horizon former this year. The new Dark Orange album - the first after more than 15 years of absence - is scheduled for a 2010 spring release on Kalinkaland records, home of artists like Arcana and Chandeen.

Rain in Spring

The new acoustic album 'When the rains come' can now be orderd from the official website and will be avialable in your trusted record shop on June 8th.

Recorded in a single four day session in a barn in rural Herefordshire 'And also the trees' succeeded in capturing a feeling of spontaneous vitality, from the 'live' situation and a sense of space and detail from the ancient and sparse environment. The 14 songs selected from throughout their song writing history are performed and carefully arranged for vocal, acoustic guitar and double bass with the occasional accompaniment of dulcimer, accordion and melodica.

To those familiar with the universe of 'And also the trees' these captivating recordings will provide an exciting redefinition of their rich melodies and unique musical landscapes and atmospheres. To the uninitiated or those who thought they knew who this band were it will be a surprise.
Their fierce sense of independence and non conformist attitude have always made them hard to accurately categorize. 'When the rains come" is a fantastic opportunity to discover, or rediscover 'And also the trees'.

" ... It was a night in Berlin in November 2007 when Kirsten from the Trees asked me why we didn't make music as Dark Orange anymore. A few days later back in Hamburg, Katrin asked me if we shouldn't do some Dark Orange songs again and make the music we love so much.

So here we are again. Starting with our interpretation of And Also The Trees' "The House Of The Heart" to say thanx to a band we have been carrying in our hearts for so many years now. And to Frank from 'And Also The Trees - Beyond the Horizon' who gave me inspiration when started to work with Dark Orange again in spring 2008.

» BREAKING THE BEAUTIFUL SILENCE ON STAGE «

A concert retrospective by George Georgiou

The clearness of a spring day in February ended to a sly rain as The Trees were almost completing their soundcheck. A few lucky who watched it heard an unbelievable version of "Under the stars", but it is rather impossible to perform the beauty of "Under the stars" in a mediocre way. As it was expected (LF)TRABM raced the basic part of their performance, starting with the epic "Domed", strong and serious enough to give the exact impression to some people who were driven to the "Stage" Club just by curiosity. The delicate esoteric, gentle satisfaction of "The beautiful silence" raised a nostalgic warmth and spread the right carpet for the dim optimism of "Under the stars". Old weird times grew furiously as "Gone...like the swallows" led Simon's voice to the familiar ending crescendo. The attractive chorus of "Dialogue" seemed to last just for one breath as "Vincent Crane" along with "He walked through the dew" drove the five silhouettes in suspiciously distant movements. "Mary of the woods" echoed definite with its eerie final promise and the ghost of "...Lucy" troubled the spirits as it always should...
Turning back to the Virus period once more, "Maps in her wrists and arms" poisoned the smoky air: the older fellows started whistling and screaming to old loves never forgotten.The conception of "The untangled man", consistent and forever hunting, brought the obsessive footprints for Simon's painful dance, slowly growing into an impressive highlight. A trilogy of "The rag and bone man" was meant to complete the basic part of the setlist. Coat over his head-suspicious eyes-sly drumming steps-the storyteller unhappily is the protagonist in "The legend of Mucklow" and the tension seems to sink his strength till "The man with the drum" offers a sweet relief. "Rive Droite" walks up a hill of visions and impressions, the faces look exhausted and Paul's drumming seals the edge of the night.

They disappear for a while and come back on stage with the heat of "Scarlet arch" counting an ancient time of a personal fever. When the first moments of "Virus meadow" slipped between the heads around the room, it was certain that something huge and important was floating around: some people just called it precious past. And it was not enough for anyone as the five silouettes stepped out of the stage: the last card on the table of a starless night was the everlasting flaming circle of "The slow pulse boy" always chasing the redemption... from horizon to horizon.

Staring at the empty stage while faithful figures grab the setlist pages, you take a piece in your heart shaking with echoes and visions, memories and impressions lasting with persistence against the pale, predictable daily reality. While you keep returning back to it, a sanctuary for a world gently valuable, you can't stop thinking about music business being so unfair to them...

AATT will play an entirely acoustic performance on a rooftop in Paris overlooking the Sacre Coeur on 22.09.2008.
It is the first ever acustic concert of the band. No amplification, just acoustic guitar, double bass and voice.

No public tickets are available to buy for this familial performance. Only way for being among the few attending this unprecedented concert is to win one of the very limited tickets by answering a question at popnews.com

Frédéric Truong - who did support And Also The Trees on their latest live show in Paris last year just has released his new album: Vers le Nouveau Monde. It features 13 new titles filled with tender, sombre and sunny atmospheres and deals with love, war, hope for peace and with years from another dimension that pass through. Happiness and suffering are intimately linked up forever.
Other musicians on this album are Laurent Esmez, Christophe Maltin among MECANO and many others guest artists...

The photographies are made by Jérôme Sevrette who also is responsible for the album cover of '(Listen for) The Rag and Bone Man'. He contributes to magnify the vision of a cruel and desolated world where Man no more expresses his feelings by his work. Highly recommended.

Babel 17 contributes a new interpretation on the AATT classic Twilights Pool for 'Beyond The Horizon'.

The band thought that there was some chemical-Dub accents on the AATT's original and followed that angle to archive a huge sound in an Electro-Toxic-Dub direction with beeps & blops, groovy rythms, and strong basses while trying to keep the original spirit.

First reviews describe it as 'dark electronic ambient music of a confusing beauty', 'as pleasant to listen as the murmur of the wind' and 'a happiness for all the fans of And Also The Trees who cannot await the new album planned for 2007'. After the summer

Frédéric Truong's new CD "Après l'été" has been released this month. This new opus puts together 15 new original songs mingling neo-classical, acoustic, electric and electronical atmospheres. He is once again surrounded with his musician friends Sonia Zannad, Christophe Maltin and Laurent Esmez, the latter signs two electronic pieces of music and some arrangements in certain songs. The theme of the album deals with the intervening seasons, the passage from intense light to winter night as a background. Frédéric Truong writes texts on his life and his inner thoughts but also refers to cinema, love, untruthfulness and death...

Frederic contributed a cover version of one of his favorite songs L'Unica strada for Beyond The Horizon, a different version of that AATT song can be found on his album 'Histoires sans parole'.

November, the project of Bernard Trontin and Simon Huw Jones will be released through Shayo records. The album is self-titled. There is intention of doing some concerts in the course of 2007.

Cirrus Minor

The live premier of Simon's side-project with Bernard Trontin was in September'05 in Casino-Théâtre, Genève. The song Cirrus Minor from this event can now be found free for download on the internet album 'Frank Bianchi - A tribute to the Caiman'.

Reportedly a metaphor for a drug experience the song was written 1969 by Roger Waters for the Pink Floyd soundtrack of the film 'More'. The song was named after a type of cloud formation.
The plot of the movie is about a foreign student who arrives in Paris and meets a girl who is into drugs. After falling in love with her, he gets addicted to heroin and eventually dies of an overdose.
